FIB - Scams 101 - Ye Olde Archives

Hey Maw,
You know I've been around awhile and have made my fair share of mistakes. I learned from most and was silly enough to repeat others. I have honestly always tried to follow the rules; even those I didn't agree with.
In addition to preface my question I want to state on and for the record that I hold Jim Straw in VERY high regard. I have purchased some of his products and have no regrets and have gone so far as to defend him in public as well as advise others to consider purchasing his goods.
Now having prefaced my question appropriately....
Maw, I am a little confused. I fully agree with your less non-sense policy on the ol' FIB and can also fully appreciate that the rules are there for a reason. In that light isn't Jim's post about people asking him questions nothing more than a "Drive-By Article"?
I am just wondering what might occur if others who are no so well-known posted the same sort of info-post. And on that note I was left wondering what message might be sent to those whose post are nuked when there are some that remain.
I want to close by stating, again on and for the record, that I hold Jim in EXTREMELY high regard. But the rules, in my humble, should apply to everyone equally. I cannot count how many bazillion times this board has helped me gain info and knowledge. Such post as Jim's are wonderful for sharing info. But it is still nothing more than an article.
I have been thinking of adding a "special link" on AuctionHints so as to allow people to come on in and post an article or two. Those that are so worthwhile as to deserve to be shared with the masses could then be posted on my BLOG right along with sig files and all. But I nuke any and all articles on the board itself because, even if the person posting is well-respected and learned, the rules are the rules. And I fear that if I allow anyone, even the most knowledgeable online auctioners, to break the rules than I am opening up a can of worms. (I cannot count the number of times I allowed ads in return for favors and caught a HUGE amount of garbage for it)
Your board.....your rules Maw. Please don't take this as a challenge or a negative. I am simply trying to gain a little clarity because you and I both have something in common; I find myself constantly trying to maintain the integrity of my board. Given the immense amount of traffic you get I would wager that you too are constantly facing this challenge.
Thanks in advance for any replies. Jim, please don't take this post the wrong way.
Jim Wilson

PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT. It has been done before, but never successfully. In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace. NEWS FLASH: I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday. I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish. I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?). I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!" Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures. Although we may, from time to time, monitor or review discussions, postings and the like on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, we are under no obligation to do so. If you cannot accept or agree with the terms of service for this website and discussion board, you are advised not to post on this board. In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact. And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!). |
