Only the stuff that violates MaaMaw's terms of service, or that of the offender's providers.

Got spam on your mind a lot?
> - I'm gonna report you for spam.
I typically don't warn folks. They should know about how to behave online by now, in the year 2005. Why warn them?
> - I'm gonna get your domain shutdown for spam.
Well, would you have a spammer's domain live to benefit from abuse?
> - You're lucky I wasn't around or I'd make you lose your domain.
If a poster violates their host's terms of service, it's up to the host to investigate and apply their terms of service.
> These "I'm going to get you" tactics will only get you so far

Hehe. I think the most number of annoyed folks I had at once was about a hundred, spammers all for the DHS Club. They took offense at www.theclubbuiltonspam.com and blustered, threatened, and moaned about that site to my host and to GoDaddy. Since the site was not libelous, but truthful, nothing ever came of their bluster.
People who follow the rules of the forums they post in are not in any danger from aggressive spam reporters. But you sound like you want to incite them to riot for some reason? Why not encourage them to simply follows the rules?
> I know you are a well respected, well-known, spam fighter, but you cross
> the line a lot.
Love to hear how you think that's possible. If I have a hair-trigger and report someone to their host, and the host declines to take action until they see more egregious abuse, that's their business. I might call for a boycott of rogue providers like that, and add them to my own filters, but that's the beauty of private propetry rights. Crossing the line, to me, involves fighting abuse with abuse, such as DDOS attacks and falling to the spammer's own level and lying about the situation.
> To top it off, you think NO ONE is to be trusted and you

You're guessing. Just the abusive and illegal sites need to disappear. Hardnly a majority.

Hmmmmmm, violating the rules of the forum, that say, "No Drive-By Ads", should suddenly be allowed to flourish? That's destroyed more forums, and the moderators keep it in check far more than my efforts.
> When Carton is around, it's like Nazi Germany around

Godwin's Law was just invoked. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin's_law
"Godwin's law (also Godwin's rule of Nazi analogies) is an adage in Internet culture that was originated by Mike Godwin in 1990. The law states that:
As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1.
Although the law does not specifically mention it, there is a tradition in many Usenet newsgroups that once such a comparison is made, the thread is over, and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically lost whatever argument was in progress."

I have a great relationship with MaaMaw and respect her forum ownership. I report spammers that abuse her only with her permission, which could be withdrawn at any time.
> I could be wrong, but look at the archives. Carton has a long history of

Ten years now.
> I remember not too long ago someone accused me here of caring too much.
> Jeezus!!!! I care too much?! Look at this Carton guy. He's like some

Hmmmm, and I thought I was applying the rules of the forum. "No Drive-By Ads"
> Wheew! Now I understand what people mean when they say "you gotta get
> out more."
> Carton, YOU GOTTA GET OUT MORE.
Ahhhh, the ol' "Get a Life" retort. Remarkable in its shallowness of insight. You really have no idea what I do for a day job or for recreation, but you're welcome to speculate.
> PS. Don't look now, but the sky is falling, Carton. And your neighbor is

Hehe. My neighbor knows enough not to step over the line, and his little dog, too! :-)
> Get a life, man!!! Go after real spammers, not petty self-appointed gurus
> that like to post non-malicious links to help their page ranks.
Forum abusers waste our time as well as benefit unjustly from their abuse. Note I *didn't* go after the latest asshat to barge in here. He *was* beneath my contempt.
Oh, and if you think real spammers have been escaping attention of me and my closest friends, you might have missed this news: http://www.internetnews.com/xSP/article.php/3556941
> Sam did nothing wrong. Well, at least that is he did not spam anything or
> anyone.
Just violated MaaMaw's rules, which even if it isn't email spam, makes it Internet abuse.
> Your just spam happy, Carton. But eventually, it'll bite you or

Your sincere warning has been noted.

Innocent folks have nothing to worry about. Spread the word as much as you want if it gives you a hobby. The real spammer forums like bulkbarn and specialham already talk about me, whenever they can arrange hosting that doesn't fall apart like tissue in a hurricane.

PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT. It has been done before, but never successfully. In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace. NEWS FLASH: I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday. I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish. I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?). I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!" Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures. Although we may, from time to time, monitor or review discussions, postings and the like on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, we are under no obligation to do so. We are not responsible or liable for any claim arising from the content of any such discussions or postings or for any error, defamation, libel, slander, omission, falsehood, obscenity, pornography, profanity, danger, or inaccuracy contained in any information contained within such locations on the Site. You are prohibited from posting or transmitting any unlawful, threatening, libelous, defamatory, obscene, scandalous, inflammatory, pornographic, or profane materials or any material that could constitute or encourage conduct that would be considered a criminal offense, give rise to civil liability, or otherwise violate any law. You are likewise prohibited from posting any false claims against any company or individual. We will fully cooperate with any law enforcement authorities or court order requesting or directing us to disclose the identity of anyone posting any such information or materials. By posting messages and/or content on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, you give permission for Lesley Fountain/Friends In Business/Shoestring Success Publications to display, distribute and use the posting and content for publication, advertising, promotion, excerption or example. You grant Lesley Fountain/Friends In Business/Shoestring Success Publications complete, perpetual, but non-exclusive rights to use, archive, reproduce, adapt, modify, distribute, sub-license, repurpose, rework, compile, or offer for sale or resale the messages, postings or content appearing on this site in whole or in part, throughout the world and universe, on a royalty-free basis without remuneration. If you cannot accept or agree with the terms of service for this website and discussion board, you are advised not to post on this board. In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact. And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!). |
