I didn't care for it...

In Response To: Anybody knows about Rich Jerk? (Andy)

I probably have a different perspective on it then most people. Recently I told my newsletter readers that I don't recommend it.

As someone else said, it's just a "character" that the author is playing. But my personal opinion is that he takes it too far (I back this statement up with a quote from his book where he calls some of his other customers losers).

Anyway, here's what I said:

-------------

I'm sure you've heard the buzz about the Rich Jerk ebook, and you may even be getting sick of it. Probably everyone and their mother has been telling you it's the best thing since sliced bread.

Well I disagree.... So you can relax, because I'm not going to try to convince you to buy it in this editorial.

Personally I'm glad I bought it when it was $50 and not $100 or even $199...

I simply was unimpressed.

OK, sure -- many of the marketing experts are right that a book is worth it even if only 5% of the info in it is something you can use to increase your bottom line. And indeed, there was one page that caught my attention and gave me an idea. In that sense, I suppose I got more than my money's worth.

But I'm not sure if it's worth it to get an idea in exchange for being subjected to so much negative energy.

OK, clearly I knew before I bought it that the author was using a controversial tactic to sell books. He called himself "The Rich Jerk," and let that personality flow through his salesletter.'

But it didn't stop there.

On the download page he continues with the theme by saying something like "You're smarter than you look."

It didn't stop there, either.

In the actual ebook he says, "I'm better than you."

Fine, whatever...you're the Rich Jerk so you're keeping consistency with the theme. I didn't expect you to treat your ebook customers with respect because you are the Rich Jerk after all. I expect it.

I guess what bothered me is that his "jerk" attitude didn't even stop there. For example, on page 35 of his book (and I quote) he says, "...I earn $15-$20k from these losers..."

"Losers."

I went to the site he linked to where he claims to make the $15-$20k from "losers." And you know what? This site purports to be a nice and helpful strategy and review site.

THESE customers have no idea that he thinks they're losers.

Do you see the difference? He doesn't give a flying fig what I think -- but I know that already because he's the Rich Jerk.

But on this other site he's coming off as helpful...meanwhile he views his customers as losers.

Think about that for a moment...

How would YOU feel if you read in one of my ebooks the following quote..."I make lots of money off those Missing Link newsletter losers."

This sort of attitude dominates the Rich Jerk book. I wrongly thought it would end as soon as I paid, but it didn't.

Thus I cannot recommend a book like this...

Too much negativity. Too much bad energy. And perhaps for the Rich Jerk, too much bad Karma.

What goes around, comes around...

---------

p.s. His marketing is brilliant though.... he polarized people so that you love him or hate him. Controversy creates buzz and spurs sales. As others have said, learn from the marketing (but see if you can do without attracting the bad vibes to you). ;)

Cheers,

Becky

NOTICE TO SCUMBEEZLES
(you know who you are... you scream "Foul!" when the truth comes out)
PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT.  It has been done before, but never successfully.  In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace.
NEWS FLASH:  I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday.  I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish.  I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?).  I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!"
Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.

Although we may, from time to time, monitor or review discussions, postings and the like on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, we are under no obligation to do so.  We are not responsible or liable for any claim arising from the content of any such discussions or postings or for any error, defamation, libel, slander, omission, falsehood, obscenity, pornography, profanity, danger, or inaccuracy contained in any information contained within such locations on the Site.

By posting messages and/or content on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, you give permission for Lesley Fountain/Friends In Business/Shoestring Success Publications to display, distribute and use the posting and content for publication, advertising, promotion, excerption or example. You grant Lesley Fountain/Friends In Business/Shoestring Success Publications complete, perpetual, but non-exclusive rights to use, archive, reproduce, adapt, modify, distribute, sub-license, repurpose, rework, compile, or offer for sale or resale the messages, postings or content appearing on this site in whole or in part, throughout the world and universe, on a royalty-free basis without remuneration.  If you cannot accept or agree with the terms of service for this website and discussion board, you are advised not to post on this board.
In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact.
And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!).
