Obviously you've never met me... Seriously, the free version of Zone Alarm is a great value (and my own wife gets bored with me a lot...).
Having said that, be aware that there is a low severity risk with the free version of Zone Alarm (you can read about it at http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/free/securityAlert/35.html). From what I've heard on the computer security discussion boards, there are no plans for a fix (and I think it would be difficult to exploit in any case). To do so would require allowing added functionality -- functionality which is only available in the "paid" version. As businesspeople and Internet Marketers, we should be able to appreciate this decision.
And as a computer security professional, I'd advise everyone to remember that paid versions of free software give you better protection and access to such things as technical support -- things that could save your business someday. Free is great, but please don't put your business at risk to save a few bucks.
In closing, another issue about free versions of software is that they are often limited to personal use. You need to ask your lawyer, but if you are using your computer to make money on the Internet, you probably don't qualify for the free version and are violating the terms of your license agreement. There are several open source firewalls that can be used for business purposes without cost (and they can be found by searching at http://www.sourceforge.net).
