Big dog, you sarcastically asked if anyone is getting rich off these things.
Problem #1 is the getting rich part. Very few will get rich at anything but many could make some money. There are a lot of naive people (stupid) that feel there is a magic bullet that will make them rich just by buying a course. They receive some possibly good info and do nothing and when they don't get "rich", they call it a scam. Most of this stuff has some good info and usually costs about the same as a book at the bookstore ($30-50). Without taking some action, nothing will happen.
Problem #2 is it's always someone else's fault they don't succeed.
Problem #3 is that the infomercials are lead generators for an upsell. Some worthwhile, some not. If you can't say no and keep your credit card in your wallet when the upsell calls, don't respond.
Problem #4 is that all businesses require marketing and infomercials are some of the finest marketing examples there are. I love infomercials and occasionally buy stuff from them.
Problem #5. People spend many $1000s on a college education without a guarantee of a job and few get rich. Because it's "in the box" thinking, no one would ever call that a rip-off even though many promises are made about how you'll be a success with a degree. In actuality, you learn how to get a job and then be downsized and outsourced.I'm not sayingone shouldn't get a college education but like all these other things, have realistic expectations.
Now, I'm not rich, but I do make enough money from this kind of stuff that I don't go to a job.
Some things I have bought and found worth the investment for knowledge gained are:
Don LaPre's little classified ads. Lots of good info on marketing and how to use ads to market your business.
Russ Dalbey's Winning in the cash flow business. Very good basic course on the paper business. This is a very tough business though and I recommend all read phillyflash's post just above.
The ebay one, not sure if it's Mike Enos. Using what I learned from this course only, I sold about $1000 worth of stuff laying around in 1 month. Ebay is not my business but I'd say that this course was the major factor in that success.
I do creative real estate and got started through a Russ Whitney infomercial. I, personally, would not recommend him, but that's a long story. I do strongly recommend Ron LeGrand who has infomercials as being the real deal. His teachings have enabled me to be where I am but, let me emphasize, I AM NOT RICH!!!
To bring this all together, many infomercial opportunities legitimate opportunities.I feel that most of what I see could produce some income.

PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT. It has been done before, but never successfully. In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace. NEWS FLASH: I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday. I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish. I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?). I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!" Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures. Although we may, from time to time, monitor or review discussions, postings and the like on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, we are under no obligation to do so. If you cannot accept or agree with the terms of service for this website and discussion board, you are advised not to post on this board. In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact. And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!). |
