Which stands for "Challenging Techie Question"
Ok, here goes.....
I bought an external HDD for my new laptop on eBay. Got a great price on 40Gb USB and am really looking forward to using it to store important stuff. Trouble is I cannot seem to get my new Dell to recognize it. I am running XP Pro. When I plug it in a little bubble comes up that indicates that I just plugged in a USB external storage device and yet when I open "My Computer" there isn't an little icon or anything where I could click to select as where I would like to save items.
I tried typing up a test message in notepad, in word, and in powerpoint. Each time I clicked "Save As" and hoped to see that external waiting there for me to choose that location to save my test file; no go.
So.....
How do I go about setting this new storage device up so that XP accepts it? I have searched all over the place and was not able to find anything specific. BTW, it is an IBM brand if that matters and yes it was brand new and came with the driver software. But when I put the Cd into the drive nothing happens; it indicates the driver for the device has already been installed by Windows.
Please help! I really want to use this new device; will make an awesome place to store certain things that I wanted to keep separate. But I have no idea how to go about setting this up since everthing I have tried thus far hasn't worked.
