Caveate Emptor

In Response To: My pet-peeve with "How to Start an XYZ Business" e-books. (BizNewbie)

That is the breaks. if they have a refund policy, then request a full refund.

Always read the sales copy many times over before buying. Most often I find that simple play on words will lead you to believe that the ebook contains all infor for complete newbies, but most of the time you can always expect them to expect you to already know how perform the service or male the product. I know, it is all shady. The internet, period, is shady and nearly lawless.

Funny thing is about ebooks with guarantees is that they are usually crappy "books" with little useful info. they are not designed to be read so much as they are designed as a marketing tool to get you to their site and buy other products. they coul dcare less if ytou ask for a refund. They are more concerned that you keep readin ghte ebook and eventually get used to visiting their site and hopefully buy another product or click on some ads or do something else that will make them a profit.

the best ebooks I have ever bought are from NON-gurus who do not offer a refund. Let's face it, no REAL author that writes REAL info and in his right mind would ever offer a refund for something like an ebook or other software. Softeware is too easy to steal.

her eis an example of a real ebook writeen by a real author with real knowledge and th ebook is filled with real info everyone who is into advertising on Google should read. He is an expert on PPC advertising and a google adwords and SEO consultant. http://www.page-zero.com. He does sell through ClickBank which means they can refund you if he chooses not to, but you will see on his site that he does not tout a 30 day, 60 day, or 365 day money back guarantee like all these wannabe authors charge because they know the ebook is mostly worthles sto you anyway. Nor does he use those condesending sales letter that the "gurus" use that make you feel stoooopid. you know the kind that have these big, frivilous headline, htose frivilous pseudo-claims and about 100 PS's at the end tellin gyou you gotta order today or within the next hour becasue the price is going up drastically (and then you visit them 1 day or 1 year from then and the price never went up. Most likely they lowered it even more).

I find in life that the same usually applies to all areas in a general way...what looks the best on the surface rarely turns out to truly be the best choice. Sure a 365 day refund or even a 60 day refund sounds great. But think about it. Why are they willing to give you a refund once you have access ot the book? Look at all the ebook son Amazon. You know the ones that are actually published by traditional publishers. They do not offere refund. they'd never think of it. It's jsut silly...uinless there is an alterior motive, which you can bet most of these self-published biz opp ebook authors have and alterior motive.

BTW. I have to ask, though. Are you looking to get into the resume writing business without knowing anything about writing good resumes? If so, you don't need an ebook but rather a few university courses. There are also some great REAL books at amazon th twill help you towrite better resumes. Writing resumes is not easy if you want to write good ones, and that is why people will pay you - to write themn a good resume, not one they they could have written up themselves. One thing, also, that you must understand is that different industries require different resume formats and some require info that others do not.

That said, here are some books on Amazon about resume writing...

Here are some direct links to 2 great resume/cover letter books...

NOTICE TO SCUMBEEZLES
(you know who you are... you scream "Foul!" when the truth comes out)
PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT.  It has been done before, but never successfully.  In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace.
NEWS FLASH:  I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday.  I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish.  I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?).  I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!"
Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.

Although we may, from time to time, monitor or review discussions, postings and the like on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, we are under no obligation to do so.  We are not responsible or liable for any claim arising from the content of any such discussions or postings or for any error, defamation, libel, slander, omission, falsehood, obscenity, pornography, profanity, danger, or inaccuracy contained in any information contained within such locations on the Site.
You are prohibited from posting or transmitting any unlawful, threatening, libelous, defamatory, obscene, scandalous, inflammatory, pornographic, or profane materials or any material that could constitute or encourage conduct that would be considered a criminal offense, give rise to civil liability, or otherwise violate any law.  You are likewise prohibited from posting any false claims against any company or individual.  We will fully cooperate with any law enforcement authorities or court order requesting or directing us to disclose the identity of anyone posting any such information or materials.
By posting messages and/or content on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, you give permission for Lesley Fountain/Friends In Business/Shoestring Success Publications to display, distribute and use the posting and content for publication, advertising, promotion, excerption or example. You grant Lesley Fountain/Friends In Business/Shoestring Success Publications complete, perpetual, but non-exclusive rights to use, archive, reproduce, adapt, modify, distribute, sub-license, repurpose, rework, compile, or offer for sale or resale the messages, postings or content appearing on this site in whole or in part, throughout the world and universe, on a royalty-free basis without remuneration.  If you cannot accept or agree with the terms of service for this website and discussion board, you are advised not to post on this board.
In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact.
And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!).
