A couple of things - now that you have identified what you are wanting to do.
First, the actual requirements for setting up a business differ between localities so you will need to check with your city/county/state for the appropriate legal requirements for getting started. You mentioned that you have registered your fictitous name - what else do you need to do? For example, you more than likely will need to get a state tax license and possibly some other business licenses. Most states have a web site with lots of information for new small business owners. Would be a good place to start.
Second, another option might be to find either a seminar at a local college or other outlet that you could attend. I attended a seminar put on by SCORE in my area. SCORE is an organization - part of the sba I think - that is made up of retired business owners who offer their assistance and expertise free of charge (for the most part). They have a series of seminars and also individual assistance in areas of startup, business plan etc. The SBA site also has some good general start up info.
You will want to learn some things about marketing, decide how you are going finance, determine how you are going to keep track of the business's books.
