FIB - Scams 101 - Ye Olde Archives

Techie ones?? PHP question... I'm going down for the third time....

I'm trying to install Link Management Assistant.

I set up a MYSQL database on my website (I requested that it be set up, waited required 15 minutes, and although I can't find it anywhere, it shows there is now a MYSQL database by the name I gave it).

I made a new directory and uploaded all required LMA files.

It said to put them in a folder called "lma" in my "root directory (usually called public_html)."

I don't have a directory called "public_html" and always before (i.e., when I put an htaccess file in my "root directory" to redirect links), I have considered my "root directory" to be the directory where my "index.shtml" page lives. (On mine it's called home/blubberblowout/www, and just to be sure, I went one level up to home/blubberblowout and put it there too, with the same problem; another level up and I'm out of my site, so I don't know how much "rooterer" I can get.)

Is that right? My "root directory" is where index.shtml and .htaccess for redirects live?

Okay, so I uploaded the required files, CHMOD'd them to 0755 and 0777 as instructed (then changed the 0777 to 0755, as it says to do that if problems).

Now I'm supposed to "run the self-installer (install.php) from my browser" -- but all I can get is "FILE NOT FOUND."

I am typing it into my URL just like I would type any other file in that directory -- http://www.blubberblowout.com/lma/install.php -- and getting "FILE NOT FOUND."

To make sure I didn't do something stupid that I just can't see, I put a couple of other files in there and they show up fine -- as do the two .gif files that came with the script and live in the same directory.

I have to assume (1) I don't know what my "root directory" is, or (2) there is some trick to "running" a php file??

Help me please? I have very little hair left to yank out.

I would normally not attempt such a thing, but the manual is very detailed and fairly simple, so I think I can do it if I can get over this hurdle.

P.S. There is a forum for these questions, and I have posted there, but I see people literally screaming for help, so help may come but I'm not holding my breath.
