In Response To: That is SO unfair! (MaaMaw)

Maa Maw!

It's a sad story indeed! Losing a family over the perfect "get rich" scam. It takes me back to 1991 when I was approached by some Amway people at my local crappy restaurant job ( I was there because I was still a broke college student attending school). They told me about all of the money I could make and how if I worked hard I could be rich and I wouldn't have to worry about working in a restaurant or even need my college education. All I needed to do was go to some meetings and blah blah blah.
Being in my early 20's and broke I decided to give it a try. I went to several meetings with my potential sponsors. I head the motivation speeches and was suggested to buy the books and tapes. It just wasn't for me. All I had to do was commit to buying their overpriced items, drag my friends and families to meetings and convince them to buy the overpriced items.
What got me was how it seemed to "cult like" for my taste. Everyone was like a bunch of zombies and they all breathed Amway. I really couldn't speak to my sponsors about anything else. They only wanted to talk about Amway. They approached anyone and everyone who would listen. THEy passed out their business cards to anyone and everyone. Being a young spry lad, I couldn't get past bugging my friends and convincing them to buy $10 laundry detergent they could get at the grocery store for $3.
Someone else posted awhile ago stating that you don't see Taco Bell or Burger King making money by trying to convince their customers to drag their friends in for a Burrito Supreme or a WHopper. I do think my sponsors did very well with it though. THey had signed up quite a few people and they themselves were dedicated to buying Amway products. THey did the necessary networking and really believed in Amway so they did have success with it. So what's my point?
Ok, so I didn't stick with Amway all those years ago. I continued on with my schooling, earned my Bachelor's Degree and got a job with the govt. where I earn over $20 per hour. Ok so I didn't make my millions like the AMway folk do. I can accept that. I am working on my own paper at my own pace and doing what works for me.
To all of the wanna believers and newbies, at one point you have to realize that their is an opportunity for you. But it must be something you don't have to bug your friends with and it should be something you really enjoy doing. Stop throwing your money away making others rich. Do a project that maybe you can share with the family. My wife is helping me sell the ads and find placements for the ads! I also plan on recruiting my 14 year old son on helping me as well. People, before you take out your wallets, please think about what you are doing!! IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE IT USUALLY IS!!!! STOP BELIEVING THESE SPONSORS AND GURUS!!! THEY WILL TELL YOU WHAT YOU WANT TO HEAR TO RELIEVE YOU OF YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok, I am off my soapbox.

Good luck to you!

NOTICE TO SCUMBEEZLES
(you know who you are... you scream "Foul!" when the truth comes out)
PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT.  It has been done before, but never successfully.  In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace.
NEWS FLASH:  I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday.  I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish.  I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?).  I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!"
Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.

By posting messages and/or content on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, you give permission for Lesley Fountain/Friends In Business/Shoestring Success Publications to display, distribute and use the posting and content for publication, advertising, promotion, excerption or example.         In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact.
And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!).
