In Response To: How do I drive traffic to my site? (Dave Mauder (eDave))

Hi, Dave. Ran over and took a look and have a couple suggestions. Hope they are constructive and helpful. In no way are any of these opinions meant to offend.
Here you go in no particular order.

1.Your header-Do you want me to think, right now; think right, now...? I would change the flash or whatever to static text with a short attention grabbing phrase. Maybe the "Thinkright Now!" with a short little 3 or 4 word phrase to grab attention.

2.Your headline. I think it needs to be stronger. Quick ideas that are just off the cuff and would also need to be improved.
a.Discover a fast,easy way...
b.How you can achieve financial freedom and personal success
c.or you can do a pre-head in maybe a H3 tag: you can(bold) have everything you want out of life. (H1)Discover the fast, easy way to achieve personal and financial success then a subhead.

3.Your landing page should have a single purpose and that is to have someone click to product sales page. I would get rid of the adsense, favorite forums or anything that distracts from that purpose.

4.Personalize. Dear Success Seeker, Dear Friend...

5."Some links may open in a new window" Get rid of that phrase altogether. All links should open in a new window.

6.Your free newsletter offer should be stronger. I would put it a subscription box with maybe a light yellow background and make it compelling to subscribe by using a more benefit laden offer. Make it stand out.
Or you could do a popover

7.Benefits. Write your copy to be benefit driven.

8. Tell a story about how the product helped you

9. Believability. "No pain or effort"?

10.Testimonials, maybe.

11.The action you want me to take is diluted by too many things on the page and you never really tell me what you want me to do.

12.In general, I think your language could be stronger. You could use bullets to give the benefits.

13. Color. Too many on there.

14. Not sure that I would use 3 column format.

I know how much work and thought goes in to these things and I sure don't want to come across as trashing your site. But it just doesn't "grab me"

To answer some of the questions you asked:
Who is your target market? Is it self improvement, personal development, bizopp seekers looking to improve results....

You may want some on page optimization first. The first thing I would do is some keyword research using Overture's free suggestion tool or some other research tool. Look for the phrases that have lower searches, maybe under 1000 or 2000. Focus in that area and build to that. The self improvement niche is brutal if you focus on the main keywords you probably would never get to the first page of the SE.

Links are off page factors. Here's what I'm doing. I'm building a mininet of sites using a hub and spoke with my landing page being the hub. Each spoke is a content site tightly focused and one way linking to the next site around the wheel and to the hub. The landing page links only to the product. I will start a blog on a separate site and put links to each of the spoke sites.

I would be very, very careful about PPC. You can go broke very fast.
As far as domain names, you can get .info names at registerfly.com for $1.99, cheaper if you buy 50 or more.

As far as ezine ads, I can only say, they wouldn't work very well on me. But they obviously do work.

Dave, nothing I say is meant to be cruel but offered lovingly. I think your site needs some more work.

NOTICE TO SCUMBEEZLES
(you know who you are... you scream "Foul!" when the truth comes out)
PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT.  It has been done before, but never successfully.  In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace.
NEWS FLASH:  I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday.  I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish.  I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?).  I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!"
Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.

You are prohibited from posting or transmitting any unlawful, threatening, libelous, defamatory, obscene, scandalous, inflammatory, pornographic, or profane materials or any material that could constitute or encourage conduct that would be considered a criminal offense, give rise to civil liability, or otherwise violate any law.  You are likewise prohibited from posting any false claims against any company or individual.  We will fully cooperate with any law enforcement authorities or court order requesting or directing us to disclose the identity of anyone posting any such information or materials.
By posting messages and/or content on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, you give permission for Lesley Fountain/Friends In Business/Shoestring Success Publications to display, distribute and use the posting and content for publication, advertising, promotion, excerption or example. You grant Lesley Fountain/Friends In Business/Shoestring Success Publications complete, perpetual, but non-exclusive rights to use, archive, reproduce, adapt, modify, distribute, sub-license, repurpose, rework, compile, or offer for sale or resale the messages, postings or content appearing on this site in whole or in part, throughout the world and universe, on a royalty-free basis without remuneration.  If you cannot accept or agree with the terms of service for this website and discussion board, you are advised not to post on this board.
In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact.
And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!).
