Yes, most of them require a deposit into your account. Clickbank doesn't but they do require you pay them each sale and the amount depends on how much you pay your affiliates.
Just looking at the prices of these, affiliate marketing as a merchant will quickly eat all your profits UNLESS your markup on your product is around 200%. In other words, I could do it with some of my booklets -- which cost about $1.00 to produce and sell for $3.00 plus postage -- IF I gave my affiliate marketers about $1.00 per sale. Notice that I now get only $1.00 per sale rather than $2.00 per sale.
Also notice that these don't guarantee sales. If the market isn't there, then it isn't there and offering it as an affiliate program isn't going to bring you any more income.
I've run the numbers before (on my products) and for what I do, specialty advertising (in comic book newspapers and newsletters and so forth) is far more cost-effective for my minicomics than any other scheme.
You need to sit down and ask yourself:
* how much you make per sale now.
* how much you're willing to give up to an affiliate.
* what kind of volume you can handle.
