I offer a 100 percent money back guarantee in some form in all my auctions. On the trains and toys I want the buyers to be happy with their purchases and refund the auction total plus shipping both ways.

I started doing this when I was doing consignment sales because I had nothing to lose. Very few people take me up on the guarantee.

Here's an example of the power of the guarantee. A few years ago I listed an item wrong. The buyer complained and I told him to send it back. Three months later he sent me a sheepish email saying he had forgotten to send it back, and asking if he could still return it. I said yes.

After he returned it, I refunded his money including the shipping both ways, and relisted the item on eBay correctly.

A few months ago I listed an unusual item on eBay. I started the auction at 99 cents. With 5 minutes to go the auction was at about $5.

In the last 10 seconds of the auction, the guy who had returned the earlier item, and another collector snipe bid. The guy who had returned the item before, bought the item for $153.00.

If I hadn't of taken care of him in the past, and earned his trust, he wouldn't have bid, and the item would have sold for $7.00

Many people are afraid of offering refunds. I know I was.
