FIB - Scams 101 - Ye Olde Archives

Thanks, Oh Great One....

In Response To: Comments on the board's new IFRAME (S. Tanna)

What a DOPE I've been!! I had a major crash in sales immediately after making all the additions to FIB and had NO clue why until it suddenly hit be like a concrete bunker... My Toolbox link at the top of every page looked like a sign pointing out the other links rather than a link all its own, and someone, in the Great Shuffle, I removed my rotating ads from the top of ever message.

At almost the same time, Sunil emailed and mentioned that there was no ad on the top of the message pages.

I think he was transmitting from across the deep blue sea.

They were unintentional -- I had them on the rotating ads that were on the main page of the board for a long time (before I decided it was looking too commercial and took 'em down) -- and Mel (and others) hated them. I worked my little technically-challenged hiney off til they went away -- and I thought I had gotten rid of them on this ad too, but obviously I forgot to change my resolution and check how other people were seeing it.

> Why? Because the scrollbars draw attention to the ad.

I thought so too -- but obviously there's a huge difference of opinion on this one.

Yes, I hate flashing irritating slow-loading graphic links -- but I'm also very disgusted with mine right now, because at least on my computer, it's taking forever to load. The rest of the page comes up, and finally the ad pops in.

I have some in the works, but they aren't to my liking yet.

Thanks for offering! I have a random.txt script which makes it easy enough even for me, and another Great One, Steve MacLellan, gave me the script that allows me to use it on .txt pages (before I could only use it on .shtml pages).

Just an FYI -- all the text links lead to the same place -- MaaMaw's Magnificent Toolbox. I might change that later, but it works for now since I don't have anchors on the page and really prefer people see the whole picture anyhoo.

I'll be adding some other links later though.

> consider making that clickable too.

The blue bars? Yup... will do.

Thanks again for all your help.

I have the most WONDERFUL secret project coming up (secret because I'm afraid to talk about it before it's a done deal in case I jinx it, plus it's a surprise for my 10 y/o). I'm going to be back soon to ask your advice and everyone else's.

Luv,

MaaMaw

NOTICE TO SCUMBEEZLES
(you know who you are... you scream "Foul!" when the truth comes out)
PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT.  It has been done before, but never successfully.  In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace.
NEWS FLASH:  I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday.  I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish.  I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?).  I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!"
Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.

In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact.
And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!).
