I really wasn't going to respond to any of the Terry Shiavo post's because I am not sure how I feel about the whole thing. I know I would not want to live like she has for the last 15 years personally if it were me I would not want to be kept alive for 15 years and not be able to communicate with any one.
Doctors have said (about others) that when someone is in a "non-brain functioning state or coma" that they KNOW what is going on around them. I so totally believe this.Our family has first hand knowledge on this one because my sons best friend had a very bad snow mobile accident 2 years ago and was in a coma for three weeks and when his parents would talk to him he would respond by moving his hand or a toe. When they mentioned my sons name to him at one point he even gave the thumbs up sign. When he came out of the coma he couldn't speak for a while and my son went to visit with him EVERY DAY. On like the 6th visit to see him my son walked in the room and his friend looked right at my son and said "you owe me 5 bucks!" But I also feel that what they are doing to this poor woman is wrong. I am not sure who said it but they are right it is MURDER!!!
I know in my heart of hearts that I could not live like she has. Can you imagine knowing what is happening around you but not having the abllity to speak and tell anyone what your thoughts are. I am not trying to be funny here either when I say what if you have an itch and can't reach it or if you are thirsty and can't tell anyone. Worst yet how about looking into a person you love eyes and not be able to tell them, but your brain wants your mouth to just move and say those three little words I LOVE YOU and you can't.
I know if it were one of my children I would do the same thing her parents have been doing but then again the way I was brought up I was told that would be selfish of me because it is not in the childrens (or person this is happening to) because they are in so much pain and they are suffering.
If we can kill an animal in a humane way or even a person who has raped,killed or what ever sick thing you can think of can be "put down by lethal injection" that only takes a whole what 12 minutes from beginning to end and they feel nothing! After the torture they put there victims and there families through. Then why can't they do this for this poor woman. I think it's still murder when it comes to Terry but it's a better solution to what they are doing to her right now at least she would not be suffering the way she is now.
Better yet dissolve the marriage from the so called "man" that is behind all of this and let her parents take care of her that's all they want. So he can get on with his life. You know as well as I do that's all he wants! Out of this whole thing. He doesn't want to be tied down to her anymore so he can be with his fiance' and the kids they have together.
I don't think the way they are going about this is fare at all. Like I said I understand what the parents are going through because I would do the same for my children. But they have other way's of helping people like Terry. They do not have to make her suffer the way she is.
I was talking with my sister about this we both feel the same way but she brought up the point that the doctors have Terry on morphine so she can't feel any pain. If they are so sure she can't feel any pain then how do they know she will never be able to respond to other people ?
I hope I didn't upset anyone by writing this but I just couldn't hold back any longer.
