First thing is first, I have been in your situation. I know what its like to get by on skin of your teeth. I have sons also. Take care of them first. Get a job and then venture out on your own. I don't know your health situation but let me give you a couple of quick ideas for some quick money. I spent my entire college years waiting tables. I also did it parttime up until about a year and a half ago.
I would work just weekends. On a Friday and Saturday I could pull down $100-$150 per nite in tips and then another $75-$80 per nite on SUnday. SO working just Friday, Saturday and Sunday I would take home nearly $400. ANother thing I have done was deliver the Cincinnati Enquirer where I earned about $400 per week. Now both of these jobs are physically demanding but if you can do them, here is the benefit. Paper delivery is done in the morning only. So you have your entire afternoon and evenings off to do your side biz. Restaurants are typically pretty flexible also.
Try to find something that you can do where you can take care of the family and provide a time for you to do something on your own. And if these don't appeal, then go down to the local temp agency where they can get you some light factory work or clerical. They are excellent and can usually place you the same day you walk in. I have worked for temps also. Like CBS and Kelly.
