In Response To: Thanks, Ladies... (Rick K.)
> Hi I gotta weigh in..I'm afraid I'm not that clothes conscious. If someone wore the same thing as me..I'd laugh it off. Don't care about that kind of thing but know that some do. I don't think you can peg down "women" in general as responding a certain way...but more that a certain kind of women responds a certain way.So a hint might be to narrow your research to a niche of sorts..ie women who read fashion mags (I don't) would probably be upset if someone else wears what they do as this is important to them. Women who devour home decorator mags and TV shows might repond differently to someone buying the same patio set. I'm more interested in being an individual in who I am as a person...and being an entrepreneur is important to me..So I want to develope original ideas. I would be very upset if someone copied my ideas and called them their own. So...narrow your search a bit...
I was trying to get into the female mind about shopping habits and
> turn-offs so I could focus sales copy. I even went so far (horrors!) as to
> read some of my wife's girlie books. (no, not THOSE kind...Redbook, Family
> Circle, ect.) And found out that most advertisers and writers use lots of
> DRAMA (Tens ways to tell if He's cheating) and negative body image (How to
> look younger, instantly!)
> So far it's been a pretty intriguing experiment.
> For example, I learned that more people read the National Enquirer (I know
> YOU don't)than have read the Bible. Sensationalism sells.
> I really don't have a clue as to what triggers a woman's impulse to buy. I
> had thought that maybe using the angle of being unique, not having the
> same items (clothes, outdoor stuff) that Suzy-next-door has would be a
> selling point.
> Now I'm not so sure. Here's a good one- While I was reading Redbook, one
> of my daughters walked in and saw what I was reading. She stopped, and her
> mouth gaped open. (DAD!!! You're reading REDBOOK???)
> I tried to explain how I was doing research to try and figure out what
> women purchase, and why. That I was trying to figure out how to trigger a
> woman's "shopping button."
> She laughed and said,"good luck, Dad. When you figure us women out,
> let me know." Then she laughed sarcastically and walked off, shaking
> her head.
> The Quest continues.

| PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT. It has been done before, but never successfully. In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace.
NEWS FLASH: I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday. I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish. I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?). I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!"
Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.

In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact.
And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!).
