I think you're gonna have a heck of a lot of fun! I took marketing classes as well -- the REAL eye-opener is all the analysis you do on businesses. You will NEVER look at business the same!
There's a couple of options on campus (they always need recruiters/marketers AND you can sometimes get a tuition break for working on campus (woohoo!)) You can also work for the department (if you're lucky) and your profs may know of internships available. These are absolute gold-mine invaluable, since it counts as work experience... and we all know the old song and dance about "they won't hire you unless you have experience, and you can't get experience until someone hires you."
So talk to the profs.
Local events (events local to your college) are in constant need of marketers so ask your profs how to use those to earn money AND build a portfolio!
And just WAIT till you hit the classes about copywriting and targeting people and branding. Oh my!
I loved the classes I took and I know you'll just have a blast with them.
...after you get over the homework bits, of course.
