In Response To: ANYONE TRIED GROCERY COUPON BUSINESS (Roy P.)

I thought about this opportunity about 8 or 9 years ago. There was another company that did the same thing. I spoke to the owner. I can't remember if it was Don Farmer or not. I believe it was. Anyway, he was very honest with me. I spoke to him on the phone. Here is the gist of it. They are hard to sell to people because it's an inconvenience to get them. You can look on ebay and see all kinds of people trying to sell them. I have seen people selling them on the net for $5 per book.
First of all you have to charge like $10-15 for one of these books. I think you randomly choose like so many coupons for like $100. The consumer than has to send a $1.00 and a SASE for every increment of $10. So let's see you are asking them to pay $10-$15 for a book, pay for an envelope, pay for a stamp and then send in a $1.00. So let's see: To buy $100 worth of coupons costs $15 for the book, $7.40 for 20 stamps and 20 envelopes and a ($10 handling fee) for a total of about $35. Not to mention the envelope they have to send the SASE, $10 increment choice of coupons, The $1 for handling. So to pay $35 to get $100 coupons isn't great. Not to mention they are the same ones you can get in your SUnday paper. Also, there is no guarantee you can get the coupons you select.
Besides, why spend that kind of money when you can go on ebay like I have done and buy $100 worth of coupons for $3? Bottom line, it's an inconvenience. You don't make the money by selling to people. You sell the books to car dealerships, mortgage companies and businesses that use the books as promotion. But it's a hassle to the customer.

If you sell to a customer, you most likely won't get too many repeat orders.

These are the basics and I know! My wife is the coupon queen. She saves all of her grocery store receipts. She has been able to save nearly $3,000 a year by using coupons. She goes nowhere without them. But good luck to you!!

NOTICE TO SCUMBEEZLES
(you know who you are... you scream "Foul!" when the truth comes out)
PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT.  It has been done before, but never successfully.  In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace.
NEWS FLASH:  I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday.  I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish.  I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?).  I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!"
Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.

In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact.
And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!).
