Most routers used in the home (Linksys,Dlink and some other "house brands" that are made by one of the big companies but branded with their names on them do have some form of a hardware firewall installed already but need to be activated. My first one was a linksys before it went belly up. Now I am using one from compusa that is made by gigabyte but is a house brand for Compusa. Both do have a firewall on them. But it is advised that you also use a software firewall on each computer also. Windows XP has a firewall made into it already but needs to be turned on unless you have the service pack 2 installed the the firewall is turn on already. By far there are other firewalls available that are free to the home user and add the extra layer that can save you from most bugs that are trying to get in. But, They are only as good as the person in front of the monitor. I know that no one here has that problem but you would be surprised at the number that are. I get calls all the time from people who are getting messages about things wanting to install on their computers. That is the spybot search and destroy doing its job LOL.
