About your firewall and your router, I have no idea. Too techie for me. I come from the slide rule generation. About your laptop, I would guess that if the firewall function is being taken care of by the router and you are not using the router at the motel, then you have no firewall. I would re-configure the laptop to have the firewall. But I have been told by people who know much more about this stuff than I do that having 2 firewalls or 2 pop-up blockers is like having none because they cancel each other out, so I would be cautious about using the laptop on the internet from home where the router is.
