If you ever bothered to read the Bible, you would understand that not only is there no "pointless" suffering, it would not be and is not part of God's plan...
From what I've read, He wants to SAVE you from suffering, etc...perhaps you should read more of the Book and take a few theology classes before you comment..
Also, I lost my Dad to cancer a few years back...during his last days, he was given increasing doses of painkillers(morphine, etc.)
His respiratory specialist said that they "euthanize" people all the time in hospitals via this method...i.e., hasten "the end"...so why do we need a law that says we can euthanize people when it is already done thousands of times per year...
Alleviating suffering knowing that it can hasten a natural death is a lot different than placing an IV and giving an injection that will cause immediate death...
