In Response To: Lesley, I Hate To Tell You This....... (Rooster)

> But telling the world you are an idiot does not exactly inspire confidence
> in you by those who read those words...Would YOU want to do business with
> somebody who proclaimed themselves an idiot?...I sure wouldn't!...

Sure I would!

I'm an honest idiot!

And my idiocy doesn't affect the people who do business with me -- it affects ME, and MY success.

If I weren't so obsessed about offering "only the best" on this site -- if I could say, "Hey, that looks decent... I'll plop it up!" -- then I would have made lots more money.

I don't think there's any harm done by confessing that.

> O.K., you say this:
> "I'm also an idiot because I haven't done ANY of the things I should
> have
> done to promote this site and this board. With the exception of posting on
> other boards (which I haven't done for over TWO YEARS!), I have done
> NOTHING to promote it. Zippy, Skippy. And that makes me an idiot"....

I have always considered this site a success. To me, averaging even $500 a month while doing virtually nothing other than keeping up with my board is successful.

I could manage with that amount of success, so the motivation to add another 6 hours to my 12-hour-workdays-not-counting-homeschooling just wasn't there.

> (Oh how true! and you know why I say that)...What you started this January
> should have been done the year before instead of leaving ME to keep the
> forum going...

Roo, I know that's been stuck in your craw for a really long time now, but it isn't accurate.

You did a *TON* to help me keep this board going, and I am eternally grateful -- but not *one* single day went by -- *ever* -- since the day I started this board in 1998 (except when my father died) -- that I did not get on this board at *least* half a dozen times a day or night (usually at least twice that), skim through the posts, stop to read what I could, and nuke the spam that was up when I came by.

Even when we moved, we couldn't leave the motel until I got done checking the board and nuking spam and editing messages here and there.

I even logged on from a library one trip because it happened to be next to the fast-food place where we had lunch.

Just because I didn't post didn't mean I wasn't here.

You were nuking 20 or 30 spams at a pop, and so was I. It was completely out of control for a long time (so much so that I even considered shutting the board down at night like I used to do in the olden days when FIB had a flower on the cover instead of MaaMaw).

As you can see by the *many* dissertations I have posted recently, I am incapable of writing short answers or joining in to a limited extent. Believe me, I've tried, but unless my answer is snappy for a purpose, I just can't do it.

It's not something I'm proud of, but it's who I am. It's a handicap I have.

Why did I go underground?

Because I had to work my butt off to earn a living. My business suffered a setback, and I had to take back piles and piles of typing that I thought were farmed out forever. When I "went missing," I had two little kids to think about. I was trying to homeschool and type, and every waking *second* was spent running around like a turkey with a tin can stuck on its head.

I "tended" the board, but I did not participate.

I never deserted the board or you.

When I moved here "the year before," I intended to do a limited amount of typing and build my internet business -- but I panicked when we couldn't make it, and I started taking more and more typing, and I was back where I started.

The typing ended, and here I am.

I did desert my email, because I was getting almost 2,000 spams a day for several months, and I couldn't deal with it -- but I kept up with my personal email, and you have always had that address.

Please, Rooster...

I'm happy you're back, and I don't want to fight with you again, but I'm not going to let the "desertion" myth stand.

> Procrastination pays no dividends...

Not taking care of my mail every day is procrastination.

Not diving into an internet business when I was typing hours and hours and hours every day and homeschooling two kids wasn't procrastination -- it was a conscious decision I made because I wasn't going to let Katie get any older with a mother who didn't have *any* time for her.

> The longer you wait the deeper the
> hole you are digging for yourself...

Which is why I've been at this full time since the typing dried up. I'm working my tail off, there's no money to show for it yet, and I am have having more fun than one human being should be allowed to have :-D

> One other thing...Would you mind telling me just how a BLOG contributes to
> your income?...Maybe I am just old and stupid but I don't get it...

I'm not sure yet.

I started it for three reasons:

1. I am not good at mailings, and I'm hoping to use the blog the way I would have used mailings, with the occasional promotion, ads, etc.

2. I miss Boardwatch.

3. Lots smarter marketers than me swear by their blogs.

The end.

Luv,

MaaMaw

NOTICE TO SCUMBEEZLES
(you know who you are... you scream "Foul!" when the truth comes out)
PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT.  It has been done before, but never successfully.  In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace.
NEWS FLASH:  I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday.  I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish.  I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?).  I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!"
Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.

Although we may, from time to time, monitor or review discussions, postings and the like on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, we are under no obligation to do so.  We are not responsible or liable for any claim arising from the content of any such discussions or postings or for any error, defamation, libel, slander, omission, falsehood, obscenity, pornography, profanity, danger, or inaccuracy contained in any information contained within such locations on the Site.
You are prohibited from posting or transmitting any unlawful, threatening, libelous, defamatory, obscene, scandalous, inflammatory, pornographic, or profane materials or any material that could constitute or encourage conduct that would be considered a criminal offense, give rise to civil liability, or otherwise violate any law.  You are likewise prohibited from posting any false claims against any company or individual.  We will fully cooperate with any law enforcement authorities or court order requesting or directing us to disclose the identity of anyone posting any such information or materials.
By posting messages and/or content on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, you give permission for Lesley Fountain/Friends In Business/Shoestring Success Publications to display, distribute and use the posting and content for publication, advertising, promotion, excerption or example. You grant Lesley Fountain/Friends In Business/Shoestring Success Publications complete, perpetual, but non-exclusive rights to use, archive, reproduce, adapt, modify, distribute, sub-license, repurpose, rework, compile, or offer for sale or resale the messages, postings or content appearing on this site in whole or in part, throughout the world and universe, on a royalty-free basis without remuneration.  If you cannot accept or agree with the terms of service for this website and discussion board, you are advised not to post on this board.
In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact.
And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!).
