In Response To: Michael Masterson Accelerated Program For Six-Figure Copywriting (Connie)

Hiya!

Yes, the course is the real thing. As a matter of fact I just bought it myself and received it last week. I haven't done much with it, but I did scan the whole thing (I paid for it all at once and didn't do the installment plan, so I received the full course) and I've already begun the first lesson.

There are many types of writing you can do as a freelancer to make good money. Business writing comes to mind. You can write manuals, brochures, business (and sales) letters, pamphlets, publicity material, etc.

Michael Masterson's course teaches you specifically how to write direct mail sales letters. Basically, these are the types of letters you'd classify as "junk mail." Direct marketing is a HUGE industry and there is definitely a lot of money to be made. Companies will pay a lot of money to a writer who can produce a letter that will pull in the $$$ for them. In addition, you can also command royalties on the letters you write. So long as the company is still using your letter (no matter how long ago you wrote it), you'll receive a passive income stream from it (provided your contract with them specifies this).

Writing direct mail sales letters is basically selling in print. If you have little to no knowledge of writing direct mail, I'd first see if that type of writing might interest you. Go to your local library or bookstore and pick up a copy of Dan Kennedy's book The Ultimate Sales Letter. It's the best book on the subject ever written and sells for something like $12. It's a small book you can read in an afternoon and is very easy to read.

Start collecting all of the junk mail you receive. Save it and study it. If you think you might like to write that type of thing, you'd do well to enroll in the course. (If not, you've just saved yourself $500.) If the hard-sell credit card offers you receive turn you off, remember that you can choose which industry(ies) you like to work in. The field is wide open and as I said, there's a LOT of money to be made.

If this type of writing doesn't interest you, you might try business writing -- business letters, brochures, product packaging, manuals, Web site copy, annual reports, newsletters, ghostwritten articles, ghostwritten speeches, etc. These projects aren't specifically geared to sales, but there's demand in the marketplace for it. If this interests you, pick up a copy of Secrets of a Freelance Writer by Bob Bly and The $100,000 Writer by Nancy Flynn. Both books detail the types of projects available, typical fees various projects pay, etc.

In either case, these types of projects are "writing for hire." You name will never appear on any piece you write. Some writers are comfortable with that, some aren't. But business writing is business writing. It's NOT a literary endeavor.

Good luck!

Sincerely,
Michelle Nightengale

NOTICE TO SCUMBEEZLES
(you know who you are... you scream "Foul!" when the truth comes out)
PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT.  It has been done before, but never successfully.  In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace.
NEWS FLASH:  I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday.  I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish.  I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?).  I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!"
Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.

By posting messages and/or content on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, you give permission for Lesley Fountain/Friends In Business/Shoestring Success Publications to display, distribute and use the posting and content for publication, advertising, promotion, excerption or example.         In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact.
And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!).
