I have a feeling I'm being set up, but I'll answer anyway.....

In Response To: LLI biz opp (John)

John, if this isn't a set-up then I apologize, and I will tell you that your losses make me absolutely pukey. (It's nothing personal, just that this board recently became a recruiting tool for another "program," and your message reads like an opening to start it up again.)

What you have told us is *extremely* typical (I know it doesn't help much when you've just been bled dry, but you are definitely not alone).

I'm not talking about any particular "opportunity" here. Your story (and my advice) could apply to most any of them.

> This was supposed to
> catapult us to "qualification" so we could be in "a money
> making position".

Oh god, where have I heard that before??

> So I took the last $1200.00 out of our savings and
> sent my wife (we live in toronto).

Ouch.

> When she came back, I asked her about
> the experience. She said that everyone was great and that people are so
> thoughtfull and happy. I then asked her what she learned and she said that
> she learned about all the wonderful business tools out there to help us
> explode our business. I asked her if she got her money's worth. She felt
> obligated somehow to say yes, but deep down I could tell that she too was
> wondering if it was worth it.

Deja vu!!

You feel ecstatic while you're there -- those weekends are carefully orchestrated to suck you in (when you're done here, be sure to read my articles here and here and see if your wife recognizes herself and her comrades.

> The business opportunity has sucked money
> right out of our pockets. We have spent $1000's of dollars on advertising
> and have been made by leaders to personally feel responsible for our
> failure to succeed.

BINGO!! It's always your fault -- ALWAYS.

There's a method to their madness. As long as you believe it's your fault, you'll be relatively quiet because you're beaten and humiliated. It's when you realize it ISN'T your fault -- you've "worked the program" -- that you start getting loud, and that's very VERY dangerous for the guys at the top (again, I'm not talking about Liberty League but about virtually EVERY such program).

> When we ask about the most effective way to advertise,
> we are told that there are many different ways and that we just have to
> start trying.

Yes, by all means, START TRYING!! Obviously you weren't trying when you spent thousands of dollars on advertising (gag).

> Although the program is awesome,

WHY?

WHAT MAKES THE PROGRAM AWESOME?

Sorry to yell, but I can hear myself and it's making me want to scream.

Is it awesome because they told you it's awesome?

Is it awesome because they hypnotize the people at the conferences into believing it's awesome?

Is it awesome because so many people just like you are making their fortune?

I'd venture to guess it's all of the above -- but that doesn't make the program awesome. It just means the PEDDLERS of the program are awesome, and the PITCH is awesome, and the HYPE is awesome.

That's all.

If the program were awesome, people would actually be making money (note there's a difference between "actually making money" and "claiming to make money") and spending their time "working the program" -- not going to these expensive rah-rah rallies.

> I can't help but feel that
> the next levels (conferences @ $7995 USD, and $12995.00 for 3 days and 5
> days respectively), is highly overpriced and full of rah rah.

This part makes me queasy because I'm not sure how you can even consider this if you have spent the last of your savings, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're real because this is good information for anyone and everyone stuck in the same pile of cow dung.

DON'T DO IT!! PLEASE DON'T DO IT!!

Trust me, I know how hard it is to quit with success just around the corner -- knowing all you have to do is work a little harder or a little smarter or invest a little more cash -- but DON'T DO IT!!

Cut your losses and stop NOW.

You're headed nowhere but bankruptcy court and maybe divorce court (financial ruin puts great strain on a marriage).

> I wish I
> could find a company that sold a great product that I believe in, at a
> reasonable price , with an excellent compensation plan that rewarded you
> for your efforts.

Quit looking.

Stick with a job, or learn to strike out on your own.

You don't need any of "the programs" out there -- the "programs" need you.

A WORD OF WARNING:

You are now "scam bait," and you will be hearing from people telling you their program is the best thing since god made chocolate. It ain't so. A program is a program is a program.

I have removed your email address just in case you're for real (I really hope you are), but no telling who saw it before I got here. Come back here, toss around ideas, tell us what your interests are and ask for advice -- but don't fall for any more of this crap.

Hope this helps, and I'm sorry for your loss.

Luv,

MaaMaw

NOTICE TO SCUMBEEZLES
(you know who you are... you scream "Foul!" when the truth comes out)
PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT.  It has been done before, but never successfully.  In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace.
NEWS FLASH:  I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday.  I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish.  I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?).  I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!"
Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.

Although we may, from time to time, monitor or review discussions, postings and the like on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, we are under no obligation to do so.  We are not responsible or liable for any claim arising from the content of any such discussions or postings or for any error, defamation, libel, slander, omission, falsehood, obscenity, pornography, profanity, danger, or inaccuracy contained in any information contained within such locations on the Site.
You are prohibited from posting or transmitting any unlawful, threatening, libelous, defamatory, obscene, scandalous, inflammatory, pornographic, or profane materials or any material that could constitute or encourage conduct that would be considered a criminal offense, give rise to civil liability, or otherwise violate any law.  You are likewise prohibited from posting any false claims against any company or individual.  We will fully cooperate with any law enforcement authorities or court order requesting or directing us to disclose the identity of anyone posting any such information or materials.
By posting messages and/or content on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, you give permission for Lesley Fountain/Friends In Business/Shoestring Success Publications to display, distribute and use the posting and content for publication, advertising, promotion, excerption or example. You grant Lesley Fountain/Friends In Business/Shoestring Success Publications complete, perpetual, but non-exclusive rights to use, archive, reproduce, adapt, modify, distribute, sub-license, repurpose, rework, compile, or offer for sale or resale the messages, postings or content appearing on this site in whole or in part, throughout the world and universe, on a royalty-free basis without remuneration.  If you cannot accept or agree with the terms of service for this website and discussion board, you are advised not to post on this board.
In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact.
And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!).
