If you must give out a mailing address to receive materials, comply with CAN-SPAM, etc., use a post office box. I was able to rent a small post office box at the local post office for $24 for six months (paid in advance -- my address is P.O. Box 25085, Scott AFB, IL 62225). You can write it off as a business expense and it gives you a place to send all of that business correspondence. And the best part is that you don't have to post your home address in public places or give it out to strangers when building your business.
As I mentioned in my previous post, you really need to sit down with a notepad, write down all of the potential threats to your business, and figure out cost-effective ways to minimize those risks. Once you do this, put it in writing and then practice it. I have considerable experience in risk mitigation as a part of my computer security / Information Assurance background and will be glad to try to answer any general questions posted to the board.
