Re: Why not an armored car????

In Response To: About the "Private Courier" red flag (yes, a RED FLAG, RED FLAG, *RED* *FLAG*)...... (MaaMaw)

I ask this because the point has been raised about sending money (by checks, money orders or cashiers checks) by private courier rather than by regular mail. For the most part, I have a hard time believing that there's much of a legitimate reason for avoiding the regular mails in sending checks for business expenses. The only factor that does make sense is time, and in truth that's a bit of a red flag too. If your check has to be there before 10:00 AM next business day, start asking questions. Why the rush?

Kimberly brought up the possibility of money being stolen in the regular mail. That can happen, of course. But , I ask you: what makes you think it can't happen in a private courier company? Are they "bullet proof" against hiring dishonest employees? No no, a thousand times no. The outfit I work for has had stuff disappear. Not just checks, either. I'm talking computers, electronics, anything the thief thinks might either be useful to him or be sold by him "on the street" at a profit. In the last incident I know about, the thief was caught and punished. The stuff he stole is still gone, however.

So, I ask, why not an armored car company? They handle lots of money for a living, in fact that's what they specialise in, and armored cars usually come with armed guards. Of course, they get hit too, but not as often. Screening is somewhat tighter for employees of such companies, and knocking over an armored car is no small undertaking.

(Note: I'm not seriously suggesting anybody actually hire an armored car to transport your first check to a business you're just getting involved in. That's for one of two classes of folk: banks and established businesses that move large amounts of cash or the seriously paranoid. You're not yet established, not yet moving large amounts of cash. I hope you're not seriously paranoid, and most businesses would be frightened of you if you were. Now, go put a stamp on that envelope, and put it in the mail.)

NOTICE TO SCUMBEEZLES
(you know who you are... you scream "Foul!" when the truth comes out)
PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT.  It has been done before, but never successfully.  In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace.
NEWS FLASH:  I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday.  I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish.  I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?).  I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!"
Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.

In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact.
And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!).
