Once upon a time, in the land of everyone wants to believe, there existed an elite group of people known as Internet "gurus" ...
... and the masses flocked to them for leadership, advice and insight in matters relating to marketing. Sadly, as more people took on the name "guru" there came to be those who desired to be called "Guru Creator" ...
...and so the story goes.
Reality check: Back in the year 2,000 when there were but a hand full of us doing Internet Marketing Seminars, I was hosting an event in Atlanta (GA) and a speaker could not show. Up stepped a "newbie" who wanted an opportunity to speak and share what was working for him with my attendees.
He shows up for the event and tells me he's invited a client to attend (a freebie). Well, that "newbie" turned out to be Joel Christopher (Master List Builder) and his client was Armand Morin. Both, since that event, have become extremely successful online. They have become "gurus" if you will in their respective niche.
Now, I would love to think I created these "gurus" and was responsible for their success. I mean, both have spoken and been featured at my events. But the truth is....
...NO ONE creates "gurus" and NO ONE is responsible for the success and achievements of other marketers.
That includes the hundreds of people who "think" the reason they are more successful is because they have attended one of my events or an event sponsored by another marketer. The truth is....
...NO ONE makes you successful but you, yourself. You must apply the basics of marketing and the techniques and systems used by other successful marketers. The truth is...
...I've learned more from attendees at my events than they probably will ever learn from me. The only difference is that I ethically exploit what I learn, add a new twist, and profit from that knowledge.
The truth is....
...it's time we "gurus" started giving credit where credit is due.
My hats off to all of you ...newbie and seasoned pro... who create YOUR OWN success. To those people the year 2005 will be the greatest year ever for you.
