I maintain a blog, but don't mention it here since it has no bearing on the site.

Good idea, but they can be high maintenance. May I suggest a WEEKLY post? You can make it a "daily diary" but with your schedule you'll go less crazy if it's a weekly... and you can invite the occasional guest columnist.

Maybe, maybe not. (I do have a suggestion, however)

You'd have to monitor it. Now... you can lock your blog so that anonymous posting isn't allowed and you do have the right to kick someone out, but you might want more control than that.

I think you could do better with a closed Yahoo group. Hie thyself over to Yahoogroups (groups.yahoo.com) and take a look a "Flylady." That's one of the hugest groups on there, and operates as a closed system.
I can give you more ideas/specifics/set up help if you're interested.
