AVG version 6.0 (which is probably the version you have)is expiring December 31st and will no longer be supported.
Go Here to upgrade to AVG version 7.0.
It's still free to home users. It will install over your old copy of AVG, so you don't have to worry about uninstalling any previous versions.
I had no problems whatsoever with this upgrade, it's fully compatible with windows service pack 2.
If you are reading this out of curiosity, and have no anti-virus installed, do yourself a favor and grab this one.
This is not a paid ad, I'm not an affiliate, I'm just passing on information that may make your online life a little easier. If you've ever tried removing a virus or recover from a system crash, you'll appreciate this.

P.S., Unlike Mcalfee or Norton, AVG is free for home use. The updates are free also. BUT, If you're using Norton or Mcalfee, you'll have to uninstall them before installing AVG.
If you aren't sure how to do this, come back to this board and ask. Either myself or one of the good folks here will walk you through it.
